Troops Stop Bandits, Recover 97 Cattle and 50 Sheep in Kano
The Nigerian Army has successfully stopped a suspected bandit attack along the Kano–Katsina border, rescuing 97 cattle and 50 sheep that had been stolen.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday after security operatives received reliable information that armed bandits were moving rustled animals through the Yankamaye and Rimaye areas.
Soldiers from the Joint Task Force (JTF) Kano, supported by troops from nearby Forward Operating Bases, moved quickly to the suspected route used by the criminals. When the bandits noticed the troops, a gun battle followed.
Unable to continue, the suspects abandoned the animals and escaped toward Katsina State. During the operation, security personnel arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered one motorcycle along with the livestock.
The rescued cattle and sheep have since been returned to their rightful owners.
Sadly, a local vigilante identified as Mallam Yusuf Adamu, 47, from Yanchibi Village, lost his life after he was caught in the exchange of gunfire. The Nigerian Army described the incident as unfortunate and extended its condolences to his family and the entire Yanchibi community.
Army spokesman Major Babatunde Zubairu said troops are still carrying out clearance operations in the area to track down the fleeing suspects and other criminal elements.
The Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, praised the troops for their courage and commitment. He also urged residents to continue sharing useful information with security agencies, saying public support remains important in the fight against banditry and other crimes.
